Kakuzu goes on a detour and brings Hidan to the Fire Temple while searching for the Land of Fire's jinchūriki. Using his Earth Release: Earth Spear, Kakuzu breaks down the Sealed Iron Wall of the temple. Inside, the monks alert Chiriku about the Akatsuki's invasion. Kakuzu recognises Chiriku as a monk who possesses the Gift of the Hermit Group's chakra and has a 30 million bounty on his head. Kakuzu and Hidan go for the attack, but Chiriku uses his Welcoming Approach: Thousand-Armed Murder, the ultimate technique of the Fire Temple, to block and counter all of their attacks. As Chiriku promises them a funeral, Hidan is outraged at the idea of his funeral rites being presided over by another religion, and receives Kakuzu's blessing to kill Chiriku, although he stipulates that Chiriku be recognisable at the end in order to claim the bounty. The notion of killing humans for money is found despicable by Hidan, but he nonetheless charges at Chiriku with his Triple-Bladed Scythe.

Cagalli Yula Athha (カガリユラアスハ, Kagari Yura Asuha?) is a character introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, and appears in the sequel series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Cagalli is the adopted daughter of Uzumi Nara Athha, Chief Representative and "Lion" of Orb Union. She is also Kira Yamato's twin sister, although neither sibling was aware of this until the First Alliance-PLANT War. Cagalli's birth name is Cagalli Hibiki. She is also well known for piloting the MBF-02 Strike Rouge during the First and Second Alliance-PLANT Wars, though she would later pilot the ORB-01 Akatsuki Gundam, only once to fight against ZAFT in their invasion of Orb and later giving it to Mu La Flaga.

Ledonir Kisaka, Cagalli's former bodyguard, later brings Athrun and Meyrin Hawke who had been injured attempting to escape from ZAFT, to the Archangel, where Cagalli helps watch over Athrun. Athrun finally regain consciousness around the beginning of the Battle of Heaven's Base, and Cagalli quickly broke down in tears, with the Athrun simply affirming their previous commitments that led to the current scenario. When Athrun falls asleep again, ZAFT has already won the battle, leading Kira to believe that Orb will be the next target of invasion.

The mechanism by which GBS develops after COVID-19 remains unclear. It could be a direct viral invasion of the nervous system or an abnormal immune-mediated response.
