The Settlers: New Allies feels confused by its own identity. Is it a live service game? Is it a homage to the great RTS games of the past? Is it The Settlers, or a lesser Age of Empires? The answers seem to dance away the longer you play, and the further your settlements grow. While it houses a gorgeous world that actively encourages you to keep exploring, placing roads, and looking after your flock, a lack of depth and identity makes New Allies feel like a muddled experiment.

This is actually a reboot for a series of real-time strategy games that began back in 1993. Ubisoft Düsseldorf, which itself is the original creator of the franchise back when the studio went by Blue Byte, is developing the new game. Like past entries, The Settlers has players discovering new lands, gathering resources, and building cities.

Ubisoft also announced that a closed beta for the game will start on January 20 and last until January 24. You can sign up for the beta here. The beta and the full game will be available on PC via Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store.

"As we went through this feedback, it became clear to our team that the quality wasn't yet in line with the team's vision," the studio wrote. "Therefore, we took the decision to postpone the launch of the game to a later date. The additional time will be used to further improve the game and push quality as our main priority for all our players."

First announced in August 2018 and aiming for a 2019 release, details surrounding development on the city-building strategy game have been kept under wraps for years now. This marks the third time that The Settlers has been delayed, and the second time that it was slapped with an indefinite release date. Based on the decades-old franchise, this new incarnation of The Settlers is being developed on Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, the same software that powers games such as The Division 2 and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

The last game in the core series was The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom, which was released all the way back in 2010. Three DLC packs were added to the game over several months--Uncharted Land, Conquest: The Empire, and Rise of the Rebellion--with everything eventually being bundled into a deluxe edition in 2011.

Afterward, The Settlers: Kingdoms of Anteria was scheduled for release in 2014 but Ubisoft and developer Blue Byte pulled the plug on the original version of that game after receiving negative reception from the closed beta. That title would eventually be redesigned into an action-RPG that was released in 2016 as the standalone Champions of Anteria.

The Settlers is currently available for preorder with two available versions, a $60 standard edition or an $80 deluxe edition. The deluxe edition includes a digital artbook, soundtrack, in-game item skins, a 3-day Shard Booster, a unique title, and more.

Settling, trading, and building are the keys to success. Skillfully place settlements and roads, haggle with your friends for resources, and cleverly use the robber to block hexes. Just like in the board game, strategic thinking is required to prevail against your opponents.

In this expansion, you build ships for your settlers' new adventures at sea and set sail for your journey to new shores. As in the well-known board game, you are a seafarer in search of undiscovered islands and rare treasures - but watch out for the pirates!

This latest release date marks Ubisoft's fourth attempt at getting its Settlers reboot out the door; when the publisher first revealed it was revisiting the series' much-loved city-building and real-time strategy formula back in 2018, the reboot was expected to arrive in autumn the following year. That wasn't to be, though, and the game was first pushed into 2020 before being postponed indefinitely as summer 2020 rolled around.

It seemed like the end was finally in sight for patient The Settlers fans at the start of this year, however, when Ubisoft announced a new 17th March release date for its reboot - but, following less-than-stellar closed beta feedback, the publisher slammed on the breaks once more, only saying the game would instead launch at "a later date".

Hardcode mode introduces modifiers and conditions making the game's AI "even more challenging", and Skirmish mode is designed for up to eight players - either solo vs. AI, co-op vs. AI, or PvP - with 12 maps being available at launch.

Alongside a PC release, The Settlers: New Allies is also in development for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Amazon Luna. Additional details on the game will be shared during a developer livestream at 3pm on 1st December.

Some PC franchises are undoubtedly legendary, having spawned numerous installments over decades. Blue Byte's city-building RTS series comes back with the eighth mainline game, delighting veterans and newcomers alike. It's been a while since the last entry, so it's certainly a welcome return.

Thanks to this article, you'll learn all the essential information about this premiere, such as the game's price, the available editions, and much more. You'll also find out if any store is currently running The Settlers New Allies PC sale. However, before we move on to the details, let's watch the launch trailer.

The publisher of the game, Ubisoft, ensures that a new entry will be right up the alley of fans of the best installments of the series, staying true to the 30-year-old tradition. It will offer three different factions with different game styles and stories. In addition to the campaign, you'll find a multiplayer mode that allows you to skirmish with up to eight other players.

Alas, as much as we'd like to provide you with insight into the game's pros and cons, there are no The Settlers 8 PC reviews at the time of writing. Due to the embargo, we'll have to wait a little while longer for the critics to share their thoughts. Nevertheless, the trailers look very promising, and fans of city-building games are undoubtedly in for a treat with this new addition to the Settlers franchise.

But don't worry; you don't have to pay the full retail price to play the game on day one. It's part of Ubisoft+, which costs $14.99 monthly, just like other Ubisoft titles. It's still a pretty neat offer if you ask us. On top of that, it's available in the Deluxe Edition, allowing you to get the whole experience from the get-go.

If you're not interested in subscription services, you probably want to know how much the game costs. The Settlers New Allies PC price is set at $59.99 without any discounts. Fortunately, some digital stores already sell the game for less. Although, in the future, there will probably be more affordable options, for now, the cheapest way to get the game is to subscribe to the aforementioned Ubisoft+.

If you're unsatisfied with The Settlers 8 PC price, consider setting up a price alert. It will immediately notify you when the game is available for less. It's the easiest way to keep track of your favorite titles without putting too much effort into browsing all the offers.
